Abstract From the Canadian patent

A system and method for mixing and embedding an audio signal and a control signal in a storage medium and then extracting and separating the signals by filter means such as for an electrically actuated device. The separated audio signal is directed to a speaker and the control signal having frequency significantly different from that of the audio signal and preferably lower than the audio signal is directed to the electrically-actuated device such as a motor arranged for mechanically moving parts of an actuated character. The system and method can simulate music or speaking sounds which are closely synchronized with natural movements of the activated character such as a doll or figurine.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed February 17, 1998. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended February 17, 2018.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 17, 2020.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
