Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method of manufacturing herringbone gears using an injection molding process is provided. An apparatus for manufacturing herringbone gears with an injection molding process is also provided. The apparatus and process involves the use of two separable mold halves each of which include a mold cavity for molding one half of the gear. Moldable material is injected into the mold halves when they are in a sealing abutting engagement. After the material solidifies the mold halves are separated and the gear is simultaneously unscrewed from each mold cavity.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed February 4, 1998 and granted November 21, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 4, 2018.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 4, 2020.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
