A method for high speed morphological processing in a computerized image processing system starts by acquiring a binary image (10) and selecting feature and height values (12) corresponding to a desired morphological processing of an image. The image is scanned in a raster scanning sequence (14) so as to produce a scanned image including a plurality of pixels. A sequential labeling transformation is performed on each of the plurality of pixels of the scanned image so as to produce a transformed image (16). A thresholding operation is performed on the transformed image (18). The resultant image is translated (20).

Why it's free to use
- Filed July 24, 1996 and granted January 1, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended July 24, 2016.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 24, 2018.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
