Image signals or shape signals are encoded more efficiently than conversion techniques. A changed-picture element detector (2) receives an input signal (1) and detects such a picture element that changes in binary picture element value. A changed-picture element predictor (4) reads a reference image stored in a memory (3) and predicts changed picture elements of the input signal (1). A differential value calculator (5) subtracts the output of the predictor (4) from the output of the detector (2) and a differential value rounding device (7) compares an allowance value (e) with a predicted error (D) and outputs a minimum value (x) (D-exD+e) at which the number of bits required for the …

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 15, 1997 and granted August 13, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 15, 2017.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 15, 2019.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
