A data storage medium, e.g. an important personalized document such as, personal identity card, check card etc. with graphic and/or text data in the coded and/or uncoded form. The graphic and/or text data are at least partially produced on a support and additionally reproduced on the data storage medium at least partially as separate, optically variable elements. This makes forgery or falsification of the data extremely difficult or even to prevent it.

Why it's free to use
- Filed December 31, 1997. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended December 31, 2017.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 31, 2019.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
