Abstract From the Canadian patent

A vertically adjustable hitch for an agricultural tractor includes a pair of guide rails and a retainer which moves up and down on the rails. A chain has fixed ends and a central region which engages a pair of pulleys which are rotatably mounted on the retainer. As the pulleys rotate they roll along the chain and move the retainer. A drive mechanism is coupled to rotate at least one of the pulley. A locking mechanism is releasably engageable with the chain to prevent movement of the retainer relative to the chain.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed January 23, 1998 and granted April 10, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended January 23, 2018.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 23, 2020.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
