Abstract From the Canadian patent

Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is a process to amplify a specific segment of DNA, from minute amount of genetic material such as blood drops or hairs. Traditional method for detecting the amplified DNA product is by using the agarose gel, electrophoresis for size separation. And then the ethidium bromide treated gel will be, observed under UV light. In this invention one step assay test strip is used to detect the amplified product directly, after the PCR process in a fast and convenient way. The use of ethidium bromide and, agarose gel electrophoresis are not required.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed February 25, 1998. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended February 25, 2018.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 25, 2020.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
