Abstract From the Canadian patent

Methods and apparatus for providing automatic retransmission query (ARQ) functions in a communication system. A transmitter in the system applies an input data packet to a first convolutional encoder operating at a first rate to generate an inner code including multiple encoded packets. The encoded packets are interleaved and applied to a second convolutional encoder operating at a second rate which generates an outer code including a transmit packet generated from each of the encoded packets. A first transmit packet is sent to a receiver which decodes the transmit packet in a Viterbi decoder operating at the second rate to generate a decoded version of the first transmit packet. The …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 25, 1997 and granted April 9, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 25, 2017.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 25, 2019.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
