Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method and apparatus for modifying the amount of energy required to move an actuator includes the use of at least one adjuster to help decrease the static load created by an actuable element to be moved by the actuator. The adjuster may include, for example, a pneumatic cylinder a, spring, a resilient material or a flexible bag. Preferably the adjuster is configured to support the load at a midpoint along the range of motion of the actuator without any force from the actuator to thereby decrease the static load and balance the load to which the actuator is subjected.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 20, 1997. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended November 20, 2017.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 20, 2019.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
