Methods for photocleavage of a polymer of ribonucleic acid using a photosensitive texaphyrin are provided. A preferred method of use is the sitespecific photocleavage of a polymer of ribonucleic acid and a preferred photosensitive texaphyrin is a derivatized texaphyrin having binding specificity, in particular, a texaphyrin covalently coupled to a sitedirecting molecule, preferably an oligonucleotide. Possible substrates for photocleavage include messenger, ribosomal transfer, small nuclear, and small , cytosolic ribonucleic acids and ribonucleic acid cofactors, thereby inactivating these ribonucleic acids and providing a multifaceted approach for treating benign or malignant cancer …

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 31, 1996 and granted October 22, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 31, 2016.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 31, 2018.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
