Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method and apparatus of analyzing samples contained in a microplate is provided. The instrument is capable of measuring fluorescence, luminescence and/or, absorption within multiple locations within a sample well. The instrument is tunable over the excitation and/or detection wavelengths. Neutral density filters are used to extend the sensitivity range of the absorption measuring aspect of the instrument. Due to the wavelength tuning capabilities of the instrument, the spectral dependence of the measured fluorescence, luminescence, and absorption of the materials in question can be analyzed. The combination of a data processor and a look-up table improve the ease of operation of the …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed October 6, 1997 and granted June 18, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 6, 2017.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 6, 2019.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
