In this process for the industrial production of high purity gallic acid from Tara pods, gallic acid is extracted from the tannin-containing material by a one-step extraction-hydrolysis which is carried out in acid medium. Then the coarse crystals, obtained from the extraction-hydrolysis are purified to obtain purified crystals of gallic acid that are dried. This process permits to obtain a product having a purity higher than 99% with an overall yield of more than 30%.

Why it's free to use
- Filed October 1, 1997 and granted February 25, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 1, 2017.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 1, 2019.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
