A polymer wicker-like yarn used in the fabrication of furniture and other items has a groove on the outer surface extending in an axial direction along the yarn. The groove may be interrupted or may wobble along the axis of the yarn. The yarn may also have a stripe extending along its axis which may wobble and/or intersect the groove at various points along the stripe. A woven material having a wicker look incorporates the wicker-like yarn as the weft yarn and may incorporate the wicker-like yarn as the warp yarn. An article of furniture having a wicker look incorporates panels of the material. Furniture can be constructed using the woven material in the nature of stackable arm chairs.

Why it's free to use
- Filed August 21, 1997 and granted August 6, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended August 21, 2017.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 21, 2019.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
