Process for preparing high overbased metal sulfurized alkylphenates wherein a majority of the alkalinity is provided by at least a stoichiometric excess of metal. The process is characterized by a sulfurization reaction using a promoter, followed by overbasing with carbon dioxide a polyamine, and, additional metal base in the presence of an alkylene glycol under reactive conditions at temperatures in the range of about from 150° C to 190° C. The process affords a metal sulfurized phenate product which is substantially insensitive to overcarbonation, which exhibits low corrosive wear and which, exhibits high rates of acid neutralization. These compositions are useful in theformulation of …

Why it's free to use
- Filed August 19, 1997. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended August 19, 2017.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 19, 2019.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
