Abstract From the Canadian patent

Binary and multiple-valued nonvolatile content addressable memories (NVCAMs) use ferroelectric capacitors (634 644, 714, 910, 918, 965, 976) as nonvolatile storage elements. The operation of the NVCAMs is accessed either in serial or in parallel. In a 2-bit NVCAM of a parallel access structure, search operation is performed by a simultaneous access to a 4-level polarization of the ferroelectric capacitor. The total number of search operations is reduced.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed December 6, 1996 and granted August 21, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended December 6, 2016.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 6, 2018.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
