Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method, apparatus and system is provided for connecting a client to a service which, may already be running, or where the service may be started up at the request of the client, to connect to it and that permits either side if the connection path to initiate a connection. Further no specific startup order is required. The provisions overcome limitations of, client/server protocols restrictions of connecting clients to running services, and systems, having high availability requirements that make service restarts prohibitive.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed July 11, 1997 and granted October 29, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended July 11, 2017.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 11, 2019.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
