A down hole rotary pump in a well is driven by a down hole hydraulic motor. The motor is mounted in the production string using a motor mount. The motor has a hollow shaft that passes fluid through both the motor and the motor mount. This arrangement provides a high torque down hole drive system. It eliminates the sucker rod drive that causes power loss and tubing wear and mitigates problems in completing directional and deviated wells.

Why it's free to use
- Filed July 4, 1997 and granted November 17, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended July 4, 2017.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 4, 2019.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
