Abstract From the Canadian patent

This invention relates to an initiator system for the polymerisation of isoolefins having 4 to 16 carbon atoms, optionally with monomers polymerisable with iso-olefins, the system consisting of or one or more aromatic or heteroaromatic,poly-cyclic hydrocarbons and an aged organic solution of vanadium tetrachloride wherein the concentration of the vanadium tetrachloride is 0.01 mmol to 500 mmol per litre of solvent and the molar ratio of aged vanadium tetrachlorideto polycyclic hydrocarbons is in the range from 100:1 to 1:100. It is possible by means of the initiator system according to the invention to produce polyisoolefins, in particular butyl rubbers at relatively high temperatures, with …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed July 4, 1997. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended July 4, 2017.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 4, 2019.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
