It is practice to fragment Ions in an MS/MS-time-of-flight mass-spectro-meter by colliding them with the molecules or atoms of some collision gas. In order to assign the fragment ions to their respective parent ions some, ion selecting mechanism such as an ion gate must be used to preselect one specific mass of the primary ion spectrum. Usually the combination of both elements a collision cell and an ion, selector will need so much space that the size of the mass-spectrometer will increase, also reducing its sensitivity. This effect can be avoided by, integrating ion selector and collision cell into one unit.

Why it's free to use
- Filed July 29, 1997. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended July 29, 2017.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 29, 2019.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
