Abstract From the Canadian patent

A catalyst suitable for producing dimethyl ether comprises alumina particles having an average size of 200 µm or less and a methanol synthesis catalyst layer formed around each of the alumina particles. The methanol synthesis catalyst has a weight ratio of 0.05 to 5 to a weight of the alumina particles. The catalyst is produced by forming a layer comprising a methanol synthesis catalyst around each of alumina particles. The dimethyl ether is produced by the method of forming a slurry by introducing the catalyst into a solvent and introducing a mixed gas comprising carbon monoxide and hydrogen into the slurry.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed June 9, 1997 and granted January 30, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 9, 2017.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 9, 2019.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
