A cardboard box containing glass containers is opened by passing the box past a continuously moving bandsaw blade which cuts through lower portions of upright sides of the box. The bandsaw blade possesses a front surface having only straight (non-set) teeth. The teeth have forwardly and downwardly inclined cam surfaces on their upper surfaces which cause the bottles to be relatively smoothly raised, with minimal scratching and chipping, as the blade travels therebeneath.

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 3, 1997 and granted May 14, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 3, 2017.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 3, 2019.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
