A pump for pumping molten metal includes a motor carried by a motor mount and having a drive shaft. A pump shaft is connected at one end to the drive shaft and an impeller is connected to the other end of the pump shaft. The motor drives the drive shaft to rotate the pump shaft and the impeller in a bath of molten metal. A device for determining the speed of rotation of the pump shaft includes a sensor adapted to be disposed above the bath for generating signals in response to rotation of the drive shaft or the pump shaft and a device for processing the signals into a value indicative of the speed of rotation of the pump shaft.

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 29, 1997. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended May 29, 2017.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 29, 2019.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
