A triaxial force sensor using a hemispherical target (60) supported by a compliant element such as a spring or an elastomer (416) supported by a rigid support member (402). The sensor includes a plurality of ultrasonic transducers (52) disposed in a plane at equal intervals about the target (60) and vertically and laterally offset from the target (60). The transducers (52) are orientated at an oblique angle to the plane and aimed at the target (60) , in its rest position. The target (60) is displaced by sufficient force applied to elastically deform the compliant element (416) which displacement alters , the transit times of ultrasonic signals from the transducers (52) which are …

Why it's free to use
- Filed October 26, 1995 and granted August 19, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 26, 2015.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 26, 2017.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
