A finely-divided cerium oxide-metal/metalloid oxide mixture containing pyrogenically-produced metal/metalloid oxide and 0.001 to 95 wt.% cerium oxide. The resulting mixture having a specific surface area between 10 and 400 m2/g is, produced by mixing the pyrogenically-produced metal/metalloid oxide (having a specific surface area between 30 and 400 m2/g) with a cerium compound which is decomposable to the oxide at elevated temperature and the, cerium compound then is thermally decomposed to the oxide. The cerium oxide-metal/metalloid oxide mixture can be used as a polishing agent or as a polymer filler material.

Why it's free to use
- Filed April 23, 1997 and granted August 7, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 23, 2017.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 23, 2019.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
