An all-optical processing system is described for converting or interfacing optical signals from a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) form to an optical time division multiplexed (OTDM) form where the , initial WDM signal typically comprises a non-return to zero (NRZ) signalling format. The system comprises a plurality of NRZ data modulated, cw optical WDM channels (w, x y, z), which, are cross-phase modulated and thus are spectrally broadened, in an optical non-linear element (745), by a strong clock pulse signal. The resultant signal comprises an RZ representation of the original NRZ signal. The RZ signal is temporally shifted by a dispersive element (760), which temporally shifts …

Why it's free to use
- Filed October 19, 1995 and granted January 30, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 19, 2015.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 19, 2017.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
