Abstract From the Canadian patent

Electrochemical battery comprising thin films including a positive electrode and its collector and a strip of a host metal designed to constitute subsequently a negative electrode as well as a conductive electrolyte of alkaline ions and a source of alkaline ions. The host metal strip has cavities whose quantity and arrangement enable it to absorb locally any lateral expansion of the host metal strip and thereby substantially prevent any cumulative change in the plane of the host metal strip when there is initial formation of an alloy in the strip between the host metal and an alkaline metal formed by the alkaline ions. Also described is a method of fabricating the said battery.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 14, 1997 and granted December 26, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 14, 2017.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 14, 2019.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
