Abstract From the Canadian patent

The invention provides a method of tracking identifying, and/or sorting , classes or subpopulations of molecules by the use of oligonucleotide tags. Oligonucleotide tags of the invention each consist of a plurality of subunits 3 to 6 nucleotides in length selected from a minimally cross-hydridizing set. A subunit of a minimally cross-hybridizing set forms a duplex or triplex having two or more mismatches with the complement of any other subunit of the same set. Why it's free to use

  • Filed October 12, 1995 and granted December 16, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 12, 2015.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 12, 2017.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
