A nut frozen to a rotatable threaded shaft can be unloosened from the shaft by inserting a split haft-clamping member onto the shaft and maintaining a squeezing force, on the clamping member while a wrench is applied to the nut. The clamping member holds the threaded shaft in a fixed, non-rotary condition, thereby preventing the shaft from turning with the nut.

Why it's free to use
- Filed April 7, 1997. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended April 7, 2017.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 7, 2019.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
