A nursery gate is provided with a pivoted latch (78). When the gate (72) is swung to a closed position where it is co-planar with the keeper (10) and hinge axis (58), the latch draw (90) engages the keeper. At that time a detent provided by the nose (74) and the recess (76) engages due to a spring movement of one of the part in the direction of the hinge axis. The gate is released for opening by a movement in the opposite direction against the spring so as to separate the nose (74) and recess (76) and allow the latch to pivot.

Why it's free to use
- Filed September 19, 1995 and granted August 22, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 19, 2015.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 19, 2017.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
