Video data storage apparatus includes a plurality of storage disks arranged to store portions of video frames. Incoming data is analysed to determine the number of storage devices required to store a frame. The data is then written to the storage devices as so determined. In addition in accordancewith the size of an incoming frame the size of each stripe may also be modified. By adjusting the number stripes and the size of each stripe it is possible to write the optimum amount of data to each stripe thereby enhancing the transfer characterstics.

Why it's free to use
- Filed April 3, 1997 and granted July 17, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 3, 2017.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 3, 2019.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
