Abstract From the Canadian patent

A transmitter of digital audio broadcasting or DAB signals in which, in order not to degrade the DAB signal whose peak factor is 11 dB, the amplifiers should be used to give a mean output power at least 11 dB below the maximum power that they give in linear operation. By performing a clipping operation followed by a low-pass filtering, it is possible while, preserving a bit error rate that is acceptable by currently prevailing standards, to reduce the peak factor to 7 dB. This gain of 11 - 7 = 4 dB in the peak factor makes it possible, in order to obtain a given output power, to use 2.5 times fewer amplifiers (4 dB ~ 20 log 2.5).

Why it's free to use

  • Filed March 21, 1997. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended March 21, 2017.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by March 21, 2019.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
