The invention relates to an absorbant composite comprising a substrate (3) having an upper (19) and lower surface and a plurality of hydrogel-forming polymer particles (2) chemically bonded to at least one surface (19) wherein the polymer particles have a plurality of cross-linking molecules (9). The substrate and the hydrogel-forming polymer particles are connected by a crosslinking agent capable of cross-linking the molecules of the particles. In this manner the particles are firmly attached to the substrate in both the dry and wet state without negatively affecting the substrate's flexibility and while maintaining a desired permeability of the composite structure.

Why it's free to use
- Filed August 21, 1995 and granted May 14, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended August 21, 2015.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 21, 2017.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
