The cellular structure embodying the present invention includes a length of resilient material folded to form a plurality of planar layers. Each layer is attached to an adjacent layer to from a plurality of cells. Each cell includes a pleated side and an opposing support side. The pleated side has a fold defined by the material. Conversely, the support side has a straight length defined by the material. The cells are configured such that, when the structure is extended, the support sides are coplanar to each other and the pleats are uniformly distributed. Furthermore the material forming each layer provides for resiliently returning the structure to at least a partially collapsed condition.

Why it's free to use
- Filed February 19, 1997 and granted February 6, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 19, 2017.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 19, 2019.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
