Abstract From the Canadian patent

The interferometric current sensor is for measuring an electrical current. It comprises a light source for generating a light beam; a single-mode birefringent waveguide having a linear birefringence and a circular birefringence the circular and linear birefringences having respectively given orders of magnitude the order of magnitude of the circular birefringence being equal or higher than the order of magnitude of the linear birefringence the waveguide having a first loop portion for encircling the electrical current; a beamsplitter having a first input port optically coupled to the light source and second and third input/output ports optically coupled to ends of the waveguide for …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed September 14, 1995 and granted April 8, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 14, 2015.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 14, 2017.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
