A method and apparatus for performing joint stereo coding of multi-channel audiosignals using intensity stereo coding techniques. In particular predictive filtering, techniques are applied to the spectral coefficient data thereby preserving the time structure, of the output signal of each channel while maintaining the benefit of the high bit rate savings offered by intensity stereo coding. In one illustrative embodiment of the invention the input signal is decomposed into spectral coefficients by a high-resolution filterbank/transform; the time-dependent masking threshold of the signal is estimated using a perceptual model; a filter performing linear prediction in frequency is applied at …

Why it's free to use
- Filed February 10, 1997 and granted April 11, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 10, 2017.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 10, 2019.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
