In a foam or board insulated building panel with a structural frame perimeter and interior, frame members are composed of two separate structural shapes thermally separated by the insulation so that neither shape penetrates the full panel width to reduce the, conduction of heat or cold through the panel. Varying panel thicknesses can be achieved using the same dimensioned shapes by varying the separation dimension between them. Single thermally broken framing members can be manufactured in the same way as the building panels.

Why it's free to use
- Filed January 3, 1997. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended January 3, 2017.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 3, 2019.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
