Abstract From the Canadian patent

Humoral and cellular immune responses against tumor cells and infectious agents are induced in a mammal using a vaccine comprising antibodies and antiidiotype antibodies that mimic an epitope of antigen that is associated with a tumor or infectious agent. Antibodies and cytokines also may be used to amplify the immune cascade. Moreover, antibodies and anti-idiotype antibodies can be used to produce T cells that are not MHC-restricted and that are targeted to tumor cells and infectious agents.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed July 6, 1995 and granted November 25, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended July 6, 2015.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 6, 2017.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
