Abstract From the Canadian patent

An electron-emitting device comprises an electroconductive film including an electron-emitting region and a pair of electrodes for applying a voltage to the electroconductive film. The electron-emitting region is formed by applying a film of organic substance to the electroconductive film carbonizing, the organic substance by electrically energizing the electroconductive film, and forming a fissure or fissures in the electroconductive film prior to the carbonization. The electron-emitting device constitutes an electron source having a plurality of electron-emitting devices, and further an image-forming device comprising an electron source and an imageforming member arranged in an envelope.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed December 27, 1996 and granted January 15, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended December 27, 2016.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 27, 2018.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
