Abstract From the Canadian patent

In an encoding/decoding device operable in response to an input speech signal by means of an adaptive transform coding to produce an output encoded speech signal the input, speech signal is encoded by a speech analyzer section into encoded speech signal data by means of an adaptive orthogonal transformation, and the encoded speech signal data is decoded into an output speech signal by a speech synthesis section. The speech analyzer section includes a spectral envelope intensity estimating means for estimating intensity of a spectral envelope of the input speech signal and includes, means for encoding frequency components into which the speech signal is decomposed by the adaptive orthogonal …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed December 15, 1992 and granted September 28, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended December 15, 2012.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 15, 2014.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
