Abstract From the Canadian patent

A long wavelength VCSEL (40) according to the present invention is optically coupled to and optically pumped by a shorter wavelength electri-, cally pumped VCSEL (43). Short wavelength radiation emitted from the top surface (33) of the underlying VCSEL is transmitted through the lower mirror (36) of the long wavelength VCSEL. Long wavelength radiation is preferably emitted from the top surface of the long wavelength VCSEL (40). The two VCSELs are preferably joined together using a transparent optical adhesive, a wafer-fusing process, or a metal to metal bond.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed March 11, 1996 and granted May 16, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended March 11, 2016.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by March 11, 2018.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
