Abstract From the Canadian patent

A magnetically levitated axleless wheel system provides infinite degrees of freedom in horizontal movement. The spherical rotor assembly comprises a plurality of permanent magnets which are arranged so as to expose the same polarity on the entire surface of the rotor assembly facing the stator assembly. The concave stator assembly comprises permanent or electro-magnets which are arranged so as to expose the same polarity on the entire surface of the stator assembly facing the rotor assembly. The magnetic repulsion force between the rotor assembly and the stator assembly produces an air-gap which permits omni-directional horizontal movement of the axleless wheel system. This invention …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 14, 1996 and granted September 10, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 14, 2016.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 14, 2018.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
