The invention relates to DNA sequences coding for proteins having the enzymatic activity of an amylosucrase which allows the synthesis of linear .alpha.- 1,4 glucans from the substrate sucrose by bacteria fungi and plants or in cell-free systems. The invention furthermore describes plasmids and bacteria containing these DNA sequences as well as processes for the production of plants and microorganisms capable of intracellularly or extracellularly expressing a polypeptide having amylosucrase activity. The invention furthermore relates to the production of pure fructose using proteins exhibiting the enzymatic activity of amylosucrase.

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 18, 1995 and granted January 4, 2011. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 18, 2015.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 18, 2017.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
