Abstract From the Canadian patent

A voltage regulator is switchable between a lower regulated DC output voltage and a higher regulated DC output voltage. Foldback current limiting is actuated in response to the current drawn by the load when a current limiting threshold is exceeded. The current limiting threshold is determined by the voltage relationship at respective taps of a pair of voltage dividers with said relationship being effected, by the voltage appearing across a current sensing resistor coupled in series with the load. The current limiting threshold is adjusted to be approximately the same for both the lower and the higher regulated DC output voltages. This adjustment is accomplished with a non-linear voltage …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed September 13, 1994 and granted November 2, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 13, 2014.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 13, 2016.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
