Abstract From the Canadian patent

An apparatus having a thermal scission reactor with a graphite-lined plasma arc chamber for the pyrolytic disposal of toxic or hazardous waste. The thermal scission reactor includes a vessel with the plasma arc chamber surrounded by a water jacket. A tubular plasma arc electrode is provided for reciprocating movement within the plasma arc chamber. A conduit communicates with the tubular plasma arc electrode for the introduction of waste material through the tubular plasma arc electrode into the plasma arc chamber. The tubular plasma arc and an opposing electrode produce a plasma electric arc within the plasma arc chamber. An entry duct communicates with the plasma arc chamber for …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed October 28, 1996 and granted October 15, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 28, 2016.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 28, 2018.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
