The present invention relates to a stopcock valve (10) useable in conjunction with a fluid delivery set for delivering fluids such as intravenous fluids or enteral fluids from one or more containers to a patient. The valve (10) includes a shear-away interference member (29) which holds the valve (10) in a closed position prior to use in order to prevent accidental premature free flow of fluid therethrough. The valve (10) also includes a venting passage (32) for allowing access of sterilization gas into all fluid flow passages (21) of the valve (10) even when the valve stem (13) is rotated to a closed position.

Why it's free to use
- Filed April 17, 1995 and granted October 9, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 17, 2015.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 17, 2017.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
