Pressure swing adsorption to remove CO2 from a gas stream is conducted using an improved alumina obtained by impregnating a starting alumina with a basic solution having a pH of at least 9 e.g. of a basic compound such as KHCO3 and drying at a temperature low enough to avoid decomposing the basic compound to a form which adsorbs CO2 such that the compound does not regenerate under reduced pressure purging.

Why it's free to use
- Filed September 27, 1996 and granted April 23, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 27, 2016.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 27, 2018.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
