There is provided a gripping device with lifting arms mounted for relative rotational movement on a slider and having free ends spaced from each other and adapted to receive a load there-between. An arm link assembly coupled to the arms is movable between a gripping position and a release position to respectively close the arms to grip a load and to separate the arms to receive a load. An over-center clamp is incorporated into the device to move the arm link assembly between said gripping position and release position and to hold the arm link assembly in the release position for the arms to receive a load.

Why it's free to use
- Filed September 26, 1996 and granted December 10, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 26, 2016.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 26, 2018.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
