Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method and apparatus for providing a welding output is disclosed. The apparatus includes an ac generator having a field winding, a welding output winding and an electronic field controller connected to the field winding. The controller receives a current feedback signal and a voltage feedback signal and shapes the output curve in response to the desired output command signals. According to one embodiment the controller also receives a field current feedback signal. The controller may shape the output curves to emulate a DC generator for example by, causing the welding output V-A curves to have multiple breakpoints and/or a substantially preset slope over a welding range wherein the preset …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed September 4, 1996 and granted December 21, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 4, 2016.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 4, 2018.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
