Abstract From the Canadian patent

A cushioning member (10) for an article of footwear is provided having a series of interconnected chambers (26 and 42) filled with ambient or slightly pressurized air. Impedance means (74) is provided between selected chambers in order to restrict the flow of air between the chambers (26 and 42). The shape and structure of the impedance means (74) determines the nature of the air flow between chambers (26 and 42), such that the cushioning member (10) can be tailored for various types of activities and body weights by offering varying, degrees of cushioning.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed January 26, 1994 and granted May 13, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended January 26, 2014.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 26, 2016.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
