A rugged flexible hollow-fiber waveguide (1) that permits preservation of good transverse spatial coherence of input infrared laser radiation and that transmits substantial power of such radiation with low attenuation. The present invention preferably comprises a smalldiameter thin-wall silica-glass tube (3); a protective coating (2) on the outer surface of the tube; a sufficient reflective layer (4) on the inner surface of the tube (3); and a thickness optimal for the wavelength(s) of interest of dielectric on the exposed surface of the reflective layer (4). The fiber (1) is manufactured with processes that maintain the of the bore.

Why it's free to use
- Filed January 10, 1995 and granted July 4, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended January 10, 2015.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 10, 2017.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
